KY Deer Hunts
BOW HUNTING 130
Minimum on All Property
Kentucky is one of the few deer
hunting states where you can have a chance to arrow a Velvet
Buck. Our early hunts begin in early September and allow a
few select hunters an opportunity to hunt bucks while still in
velvet. Check our rates and dates link for more
information.
Our Bow Hunting Only area consist of 3,600 acres and has been
managed for quality for 12 plus years. 3,000 acres of
this property is a contiguous tract and is producing some awesome
bucks. A 130 inch minimum
and archery only hunting makes this area like no other in the state.
The bow only area has produced Trophy Class bucks every year
including bucks as larges as 190 plus. Our Doe to Buck ratio
is currently 2 to 1, which increases success with calling and scents
during the right time of year. Our bow hunters shot
opportunity success rate ranges between 35% and 50% annually.
Weather is major factor.
Our goal is to harvest 3 1/2 year old and older bucks.
This requires a tedious approach to stand placement and careful
selection of those stands for appropriate winds. We keep log
sheets for each hunting season to help us keep track of deer
patterns and to improve our stand locations from year to year.
Our terrain is very versatile. We have creek bottoms, agriculture
consisting of corn and soybeans, mature oak ridges loaded with white
acorns, CRP land , thickets, recently timbered areas, open fields
and more. We plant many different types of food plots
ranging from green fields, including clovers, wheat, soybeans,
commercial formulas including Bio-Logic, buckwheat, sorghum, and
small standing cornfields that we do not harvest and more.
We have approximately 50 portable tree stands on our bow property,
however if you would like to bring your favorite climbing stand, it
may give you a little more flexibility and
comfort. Your guide will direct you to the proper stand locations
for that day's weather & wind conditions. We have many options
available for every kind of condition or hunting style.
Our tree stands are hang-on models for our bow hunting areas. They
range from 18 to 25 in height depending on available cover. We
believe in scent control and hunting the wind. We place our
stands with optimal wind directions in mind.
We offer full service bow hunts and
do-it-yourself bow hunts.
Broad head recommendations. Although
we are not disallowing open on impact heads, our policy on those
heads are as follows.
*If you wound a buck with an open on impact head and we do
everything in our power to recover the deer and are unsuccessful in
doing so, your hunt will be over.
We have had very bad luck in recovering deer shot with these
head. We do realize that there have been great improvement in
open on expandable heads and are currently monitoring the results
with these heads.
MUZZLE LOADER & GUN HUNTING 130
Minimum on All Property
Our Muzzle Loader and Gun Hunts are conducted on our firearms area.
This private land has been managed for quality for several years.
We have 2,000 acres dedicated to firearms hunting. This land
receives very little pressure throughout the year. A strict
130 inch minimum applies on this land as well. This property
produces some great deer each year. Bucks as large as 200
inches plus have been harvested in the counties where our property
is located. Our property for firearms is located in Grayson
and Hardin Counties. These counties consistently produce
trophy bucks.
Hunters will hunt farms that will range from 100 to 600 acres based
on the size of your hunting party. All properties will have several pre-hung stands however, hunters
will be responsible for hanging any additional stands they may need.
Climbing stands are suggested. Hunters will be supplied with
an aerial photo of the property with stand locations clearly marked.
Hunters may arrive 1 day early to do some light scouting. We
know this property well and will be able to assist you in choosing
additional stand locations. You will be responsible for
hanging those stands.
We will meet you on the day before your hunt and show you to the
